About Us

At Savage Basketball Academy, we believe in building more than just better athletes. We’re committed to shaping disciplined, confident, and well-rounded young hoopers. Our program combines elite basketball training with a unique focus on life skills that translate far beyond the court. From fundamentals to mindset, we develop each athlete from the ground up, instilling habits that lead to success in the classroom, on the hardwood, and in life. Whether your child is new to the game or preparing for the next level, we provide the structure, mentorship, and development needed to perform at a high level in high school and beyond.

Our Coaches

Courtney Porter

Co-Founder & Director | Certified Personal Trainer & Youth Sports Performance Coach

Co-Founder & Director | Certified Personal Trainer & Youth Sports Performance Coach

Courtney Porter is a former UCLA football player and brings a high-level gridiron mentality into everything he does. As a former 3-sport athlete (basketball, football, and baseball) his approach to coaching reflects a deep love for competition and a true “Mamba Mentality.”

At the heart of it all is Courtney’s role as a father. He’s coached his son, Eaven Porter (14), since the age of 7, and Eaven was a key inspiration behind the founding of Savage. Courtney is also the proud father of Alayla Porter (23) and his children are the center of his world and the driving force behind his passion for mentoring and development.

Courtney brings energy, purpose, and a relentless commitment to growth—helping young athletes elevate their game and their mindset, both on and off the court.

Brad Wyche

Co-Founder & Head Trainer

Co-Founder & Head Coach | Head Trainer

Brad Wyche is a Santa Clarita native with a love for hoops that dates back to his early childhood. He grew up playing club basketball and was the starting point guard at Hart High School (class of 2009) before continuing his career at College of the Canyons.

Despite being a 2-time all conference player and receiving several college offers, he ended his playing journey to embrace an even greater role — when he and his wife, Daisy, welcomed their first-born child into the world. Fast forward and Brad is now a proud father of three, (Brad II, Remington, and Daenerys) and his love for the game is being poured into his kids as well as his extended family at Savage.

Brad’s coaching style is a mix of grit, toughness, and high-IQ decision making, with a firm belief in “fundamentals first.” He empowers kids of all ages and sizes with “guard skills” that translate to any team at any level, with a passion for helping them maximize their potential.

Rona Mercado

13U Coach

13U Coach

Coach Ro is from Sacramento and grew up playing travel and AAU basketball, which played a huge role in developing her skills, competitiveness, and overall understanding of the game. Those early experiences helped her earn a varsity spot as a freshman at Monterey Trail High School and continue her playing career for two years at Sacramento City College before joining the Marine Corps.

To Rona, coaching is about more than just running drills—it’s about using the game to teach life skills like confidence, discipline, and resilience. She focuses on strong fundamentals, mental toughness, and keeping things positive so every player walks away stronger—on and off the court.
